Sejong General Hospital, Succeed Korea’s first 3D endoscope heart surgery
- Enable to accelerate the recovery by minimally invasive heart surgery

The Korea’s only hospital specialized in cardiac diseases, Sejong General Hospital Bucheon succeeded a complete endoscope heart surgery using 3D endoscope for the first case in Korea. The existing 3D endoscope has been mainly used for the surgery for abdominal or lung/esophageal diseases, and it was noted for its first use in the heart surgery in Korea this time.

On September 8, Friday, Director, Yoo Jae Seok of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department and his surgery team operated ‘mitral valvuloplasty’ for a female patient in her 40s diagnosed with ‘mitral valve insufficiency’, which normalizes the function of valve by using 3D endoscope. The patient showed normal cardiac function in the last echocardiography, and pulled through enough to leave the hospital within four days after the surgery.

The Korea’s only hospital specialized in cardiac diseases, Sejong General Hospital is aiming at exquisite minimally invasive surgery using the cutting-edge technology, which can be represented by the last April’s successful robot heart surgery for the first time in Bucheon and many specialized hospitals, in addition to the complete endoscope heart surgery. At Sejong General Hospital, we will always do our best endeavors for the patient’s safety and speedy recovery.
