Sejong Hospital succeeded in aortic valve replacement using 3D endoscopy for the first time in Korea.

The operation was the first case to expand the indications after 100 cases of 3D endoscopic cardiac surgery in June, and 3D endoscopy can be used to aortic valve replacement surgery as well as mitral valve replacement in the future.

The surgery team led by Chest Surgery Department Director Yu Jae Seok succeeded in complete endoscopic aortic valve replacement using 3D endoscopy and non-sutured aortic valve on August 29 (Thurs.) for a Aortic valvular stenosis patient (female, 70), who was discharged on the 3rd (Tue.)

"There are still a lot of patients with aortic valvular stenosis who need a surgery, which is necessary to treat the disease fundamentally. We are working to develop minimal invasive surgery through simple procedure with minimal incision to help the fast recovery of patients,” Yu said.

Sejong Hospital plans to expand the indications gradually for the safety and complete treatment of patients.
