Sejong Hospital, Korea's only cardiac hospital designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, was selected as a specialized hospital for the 4th term on the 1st (Fri). This reaffirms that we are the only hospital in Korea that provides specialized medical services in cardiology.
In order to alleviate the concentration of patients in university hospitals and promote better medical services, the Ministry of Health and Welfare introduced the system of designating "specialized hospitals" that provide specialized medical services for specific diseases by amending the Medical Service Act in January 2009. Sejong Hospital has been designated as a specialized hospital four times in a row, beginning from 2012 when the specialized hospital system was introduced until 2015, 2018, and 2021.
Specialized hospitals are medical institutions that perform very difficult medical practices and are designated every three years by the Minister of Health and Welfare through a thorough evaluation. The designation criteria are seven in total: patient composition ratio; treatment volume; the number of beds; mandatory disciplines; medical staff; quality of medical service assessment; medical institution certification. 101 hospitals were selected for this term.
The designation period is from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023, and Sejong Hospital will maintain the status as a 4th-term specialized hospital and cardiac hospital for 3 years.
Sejong Hospital will continue to make the utmost effort to treat heart disease patients and improve their quality of life with well-built infrastructure and know-how accumulated over a long period of time and will become a medical institution recognized for excellence in Korea and beyond.
