  • Date : 2020-07-13

Designated as Korea’s only cardiac hospital by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Sejong Hospital was awarded the first grade in an acute-stage stroke adequacy assessment’ conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (the “HIRA”) on the 25th (Thurs). So the hospital achieved the first grade four times in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018.

The HIRA conducts an ‘acute-stage stroke adequacy assessment’ on a regular basis to evaluate whether medical institutions have the conditions necessary for acute-stage stroke treatment and provide citizens with the information necessary to select a medical institution. This time the assessment was conducted from July to December 2018 for stroke patients admitted through the emergency room at 248 medical institutions at the level of a general hospital or higher nationwide. Sejong Hospital has scored 100 points out of 100 and ranked 1st in nine indexes including ▲ existence of professional personnel ▲ brain imaging test rate (within 1 hour), and ▲ intravenous thrombolytic agent administration rate (within 60 minutes), making it selected as one of the best hospitals for stroke treatment.

Sejong Hospital’s Cerebrovascular Center, which opened in 2009, has a one-stop system in place that can respond quickly within three hours, the golden hour for stroke, through ‘application of thrombolytic agent to unclog blood vessels within an average of 30 minutes after the patient’s arrival at the hospital,’ ‘cerebral angiography within 1 hour’, and ‘cerebrovascular surgery within 2 hours’. Also, a cerebrovascular specialist provides treatment around the clock and promptly treats stroke patients based on the collaboration system of specialists from six disciplines (Neurosurgery, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Mental Health Medicine).

Since its opening in 1982, Sejong Hospital has been providing immediate treatment for patients with critical conditions and cerebrovascular diseases with its system that makes cerebrovascular specialists available 24 hours a day throughout the year.
Sejong Hospital will continue to strive to improve the quality of life and the survival rate of stroke patients through early diagnosis, immediate response, and rapid recovery.
